New Year Goals January 13, 2012

Filed under: Uncategorized — trntm @ 6:44 am

It’s that time again, new year and new goals. I divide my goals into categories to help me have a balanced year.

Mental

-Submit two papers to journals

Physical

-Gym 2-3 times a week for at least 30 minutes/ 1 1/2 hour each week

-Drink 64 fluid oz daily (unsweetened herbal tea and water)

-Lose 2 inches on belly (hence the gym goal above)

-Don’t cut hair, (trims are ok, but no taking the scissors to the hair for a nice new short bob) handle the ends of my hair more carefully in order to retain length

-Develop a skincare routine to target hyperpigmentation and occasional acne

Spiritual

Consistently spend 15 min daily with God (buy a new Bible and use new journal for quiet time)

Emotional

-Invest in local friendships (calling/texting weekly those who have shown interest, maintaining at least monthly dates with those who I have chosen to invest in and they have indicated interest)

-Maintaining my distance relationships (calling/texting weekly for at least 15 min chats)

-PIT twice weekly

-Monthly date nights

-Monthly downtown trips

What are your New Year’s resolutions?

Quiet over here October 22, 2011

Filed under: Uncategorized — trntm @ 3:11 am

It’s been very quiet over here, I blame the doctoral program 🙂 I want to try to get back into blogging here, at the very minimum to keep up with my hair chronicles and keeping track of what works and doesn’t work.

Wish me luck

Single Strand Knots October 10, 2010

Ugh, thanks to my experiment with LeKair, I have a bunch of single strand knots.  After much research it seems like one of the ways to reduce them is the stretch the curls so that the ends don’t coil up on themselves. Well, I still have a few more months of protective styling left, but I think I’ll start stretching the ends of my twists with rollers or even straws in addition to sealing the ends with shea butter.

Curlies, any advice on single strand knots?

LeKair Cholesterol September 10, 2010

I tried a new product on my hair, LeKair’s Cholesterol. Note to self-do not buy again, your hair hates this stuff.

I tried it twice as a deep conditioner. The first time my hair felt drier afterwards and my single strand knots increased significantly. Since I did the deep conditioning after a protein treatment, I thought that maybe the protein treatment left my hair dry. The second trial confirmed my initial thoughts. My hair hates this. I think it’s the lack of any natural ingredients high on the list as well as the mineral oil.  Ah well, sometimes you learn just as much, if not more, from what doesn’t work than what does work.

Dishing It April 16, 2010

I’m linking up to Serenity Now’s Dishing It party.

How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been blogging on this blog for a few months, almost three months. I have another blog that’s been around for 3+ years.

Why did you start blogging?
To stay connected with a BFF that moved to DC. We were going to share the blog and post our photos and funny stories on the blog for each other as well as our other two BFFs.  I have to remind myself that this is the goal of the blog.

Tell me about your blog’s title. Why did you choose it?
I’m pretty frugal, or cheap as my family puts it. I rather “shop at home” than shop in a store. I’ve been known to reuse something multiple times until it’s begging for mercy.

What do you blog about?
Almost everything. Mostly DIY projects, food and recipes and natural hair care. Occasionally a tidbit from random occurrences of life-like my popcorn episode.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?
Sharing photos of what I’ve created with my friends.

If you had to choose one famous person to become your blog’s next devoted reader, who would you pick?
Vern Yip or Ali Azhar

What’s the funniest comment you’ve ever received on a blog post?
Nothing funny…yet

That’s about it. So, what topics would you like to see featured more on the blog?

My Birth Plan March 1, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — trntm @ 5:51 am
I’ve given this a lot of thought and I’ve decided on a birth plan. There’s the all natural route, Bradley method, Lamaze method, etc. I decided to go with the BEAR method.

“When you are a girl bear, you birth your children (who are the size of walnuts) while you’re sleeping and wake to partially grown, cute, cuddly cubs.”

Yep, I’m definitely going with the BEAR birth plan.
